Community Initiatives Program (CIP): Approved Grant
Lacombe, Alberta (July 28, 2020) - The Lacombe & District FCSS has been approved for a Community Initiatives Program (CIP) Operating Grant to assist with Senior’s Services, Volunteer Services and organizational development projects. The total grant amount is $75,000 with projects being implemented from August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2022.
“It was very exciting to receive the letter of notification from Leela Sharon Aheer, Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism and Status of Women and Ron Orr, MLA Lacombe-Ponoka”, said Jodi Baehl, Chairperson of the Lacombe & District FCSS Board of Directors. “This will certainly enhance our community supports for seniors, create new volunteer initiatives and assist staff with training opportunities.”
The CIP Program has been designed to support organizations as they take action to contribute to their communities and to create opportunities for Albertans to engage with their communities. “We can now move forward with a number of priorities for Lacombe FCSS and our community”, said Susan MacDonald, Executive Director. Our FCSS project is two-fold; the CIP Operating Core Funding will be used to focus on seniors “Aging Well in our Community” and the CIP Organizational Development Funding will be used to create an OHS, Occupational Health and Safety Plan and a Communication Plan for our Agency.
The project components will complement one another to engage and promote social interaction of older adults so that they are actively engaged and aging well in our community and are able to remain living independently at home.
Our FCSS Senior Services Coordinator will be working with local seniors, community partners, volunteers and other FCSS staff members to facilitate many new program initiatives, including; conducting an aging well survey, increased caregiver supports, OMA courses (Opening Minds through Art), Nav-Care connecting seniors to supports through volunteer visitations, aging well seminars and responding to other identified needs over the next two years.
“We are excited to launch some new programs as well as enhance our existing senior’s supports to ensure seniors are socially engaged, supported and aging well in Lacombe and area”, says Carlene Wagner, FCSS Seniors Services Coordinator.
