Community Outreach

Apr 07, 2020

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the Lacombe & District FCSS Community Outreach Coordinator, Judy Pyra RSW, has taken steps to ensure that community members who maybe experiencing personal difficulties, continue to have the ability to communicate concerns/problems as they arise.

As we protect ourselves and others from COVID-19, we also need to protect vulnerable others from loneliness and continue to ensure Mental Health Wellness in the community. It is critical to maintain important relationships during a time of self-isolation and social distancing. It is of equal importance to help meet basic needs.

To ensure on-going safety and wellness, the Community Outreach Coordinator will continue to provide service by telephone, email, and scheduled appointments. Services will include:

-Telephone Assessments/wellness checks

-Answering questions/problem solving (helping those who may need additional supports to meet their basic needs).

-Make Appropriate Community Referrals (financial, shelter, Mental Health, CAWES (domestic violence support) , PCN, AHS, CFS (prevent child abuse), police, churches, etc.) Working in collaboration with other professionals in the community to ensure that identified client needs continue to be met.

-Advocating and acting on behalf of vulnerable adults and others who maybe at higher risk by ensuring that they have access to Financial Benefit Programs such as AISH , Alberta Works, , Senior Supports and Service Canada (Isolation Benefit Program) and supporting them through the difficult process of navigating these systems.

-On-going client support/case management for existing clients.
